Why I Homeschool.

Why Homeschooling Works For Me

I started homeschooling last year and it wasn’t an easy choice. My wife and I had always planned on homeschooling. I was homeschooled and I loved it, but we just didn’t think that we could afford for one of us not to work. I won’t lie, it was a hard decision to send her to school, but we did it.

She barely made it through Kindergarten and she only lasted a few months of First grade. The funny thing is she got great grades even though she was absent almost once a week if not more. Her teachers said she was a great kid, but my daughter just couldn’t handle the stress of school. She found school to be a scary place and to quote her, “This place is a prison and I can’t stand to be here for another second”.

Getting her to school was a daily struggle and she seemed to have stomach problems daily, but my wife and I followed the advice of the school and reluctantly left her screaming and crying daily. It was literally the hardest thing I ever had to do and it was a daily experience. I was having panic attacks and had to miss a ton of work. I regret it and eventually we decided that this couldn’t last.

I started homeschooling her while I worked overnights and I burnt myself out real fast. I ended up injuring myself and had to make a hard choice, but I made it. I decided to quit and just focus all my attention on my family and my daughters education. Part of me felt like I was being a bad husband by not providing for my family, but my wife assured me that it was the opposite. She told me that I was providing for our family in a different way.

I am not saying that public school is the scourge of the earth, but it does allow for kids to fall through the cracks. They see so many kids that they can’t help but try to teach to the middle.

The biggest reason I love homeschooling is it gives us the freedom to teach my daughter in a way that works for her. I love the ability to focus on the subjects she loves and skipping over the curriculum she already understands.

So if you want to homeschool, I say just go for it. We didn’t think we could afford it, but it’s amazing how you just figure out how to make it work when you have to. You don’t have to be a genius to teach your kids, you just have to be determined and passionate about it.

Do you homeschool, or have you ever thought of homeschooling? What is your outlook on the subject?

The home schooling is really strange for me being from Spain, here we have the socialist government dictating how we should live our lifes.

I think you mentioned the most essential reasons why I choose to homeschool my daughter “The biggest reason I love homeschooling is it gives us the freedom to teach my daughter in a way that works for her. I love the ability to focus on the subjects she loves and skipping over the curriculum she already understands.” My daughter LOVES projects, so that is how we work. Great post!

I’m a homeschooler mum of a thirteen year old. Only due to bullying and him being an introvert and prefers not to be around people. The five year old would love to homeschool but I’m not sure but I will say the five year old doesn’t think it is fair the brother gets to stay home with mummy.
